Teaching CredentialsBack to topMultiple Subject CredentialThe 2042 Multiple Subject teaching credential authorizes the holder to teach all students including English learners in a self-contained classroom, K-12; it is the credential sought by those who wish to teach elementary school (K-6). Single Subject CredentialThe 2042 Single Subject teaching credential authorizes the holder to teach a special subject in a departmentalized classroom, such as Math or English at the middle school or high school level. Education Specialist (Special Education) Credentials (Level I and II) - Mild/Moderate and/or Moderate/SevereBack to topThe Education Specialist credential authorizes the holder to teach students with special needs in special day classes or to work with general education teachers to fully include students in general education classrooms. In addition, these credentials allow the holder to work as a resource teacher. The Education Specialist credential (Level I) may be combined with either the Multiple Subject or Single Subject credential programs. We also offer the Level II Education Specialist credential. Pupil Personnel Services – School Counseling CredentialBack to topThis program leads to both the Pupil Personnel Services Credential and the MA in Counseling. Students with a prior Master of Arts degree in a related field may earn the PPSC credential without the Master's degree. The PPSC credential authorizes the holder to serve as school counselor in California grades K-12. After completion of required course work, students are expected to complete 600 hours of internship. The majority of these hours must be done in a public school setting with students of a variety of ages, ability levels, cultural heritages and socioeconomic backgrounds. Ryan/1059 Professional Clear CredentialBack to topFor candidates who have completed a Ryan or 1059 preliminary credential, the professional clear credential program provides an opportunity to earn a professional clear credential. Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood DevelopmentBack to topThe early childhood development program focuses on cross-discipline course work in human development, education and early childhood. The program includes both theoretical and practical applications as students explore the cultural and social influences of the family and the community in the holistic development of young children. Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies - Multiple Subjects TeachingBack to topLiberal studies is the major of choice for the individual wanting to teach in an elementary classroom or for those seeking an interdisciplinary degree. Students are exposed to a comprehensive range of academic subjects and disciplines, including those subjects most commonly taught in California elementary schools. Major coursework allows for a personalized selection of emphasis areas to enhance individual career growth and is designed to prepare students for a teacher credential or for graduate studies. Master of Arts in EducationBack to topThe goal of the MAE program is the development of knowledgeable, thoughtful and ethical educator/citizens committed to the universal values of democracy, care and justice.
