Associate of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies

The objective of the Associate of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies degree program is to prepare students for career advancement in a variety of fields with the knowledge, communication skills, critical thinking and technical competencies required in the modern workplace.

Associate of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies - Educational Paraprofessional (Teacher's Aide)

If you are interested in working with children or adolescents, or perhaps are considering a teaching certificate in the future, the ASIS degree's educational paraprofessional emphasis area will provide you with the opportunity to pursue these options. The ASIS accommodates students whose needs are satisfied by an associate's degree as well as those who may wish to pursue study beyond the associate's degree level. For students who have a particular interest in working with children in an educational setting, the educational paraprofessional emphasis area provides specific preparation in this field.

Associate of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies - Early Child Development

The early childhood development emphasis is designed to provide students with the relevant knowledge and skills needed to be a certified professional working with infants, toddlers, pre-school and kindergarten-aged children in a daycare or educational setting. If you are already employed in childcare and wish to earn recognized credentials, the early childhood development emphasis is also for you.

You'll learn infant and toddler development, nutrition, health and special-needs care; and be introduced to subjects such as childhood education, creative activities and curriculum planning. Upon graduation, you'll be ready to work in early childhood programs such as childcare centers, pre-kindergarten and kindergarten programs, head start programs, and before or after-school care.

The ASIS with an Early Childhood Development emphasis is based on a general-education foundation, allowing you to plan your degree design in accordance with your employment or higher education objectives. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be awarded an associate of science degree.

An associate's degree in interdisciplinary studies prepares you for entry-level employment and brings you at least halfway toward a bachelor's degree. Additionally, many students who choose the early childhood development emphasis area go on to pursue teaching certification after completion of the program. If, in the future, you should decide to complete your bachelor's degree, Kaplan University can help you get there faster with its advanced start program options
