Doctor of Education (EdD) - Teacher Leadership

Walden's EdD program is designed for K-12 teachers who want to continue teaching while assuming leadership roles in their school and community. It focuses on the "teacher as leader" and empowers experienced master teachers to effect change and improve student learning. The program is based on standards developed by the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium and the National Staff Development Council.

Doctor of Education (EdD) - Administrator Leadership for Teaching and Learning

As a Doctor of Education, you will broaden your sphere of influence so that you can shape the future of education in your school, district and community.

The administrator leadership for teaching and learning specialization is designed for K-12 administrators who want to increase their ability to influence and transform their educational organization. The curriculum has been developed to focus on building a collaborative organization-a new and innovative model in administrator leadership. Graduates from this program will be able to integrate theory and practice to impact both their career and the lives of their students.

Doctor of Education (EdD) - Higher Education and Adult Learning

Actively engaging adult learners requires a unique set of skills and a broad understanding of adult development. The Higher Education and Adult Learning specialization was created specifically to improve the competencies of adult educators. Whether you teach at a community college or provide training for adults in a school district or corporate setting, this specialization has the versatility to meet your professional goals.

PhD in Education - General Program

Walden's PhD in Education program requires mastery of knowledge in four core areas: societal development, human development, organizational and social systems and principles of research in social science and behavioral science. The specialized curriculum consists of broadly defined specialized education topics. You complete your doctoral program by conducting original research and writing a results-oriented dissertation that demonstrates command of the discipline.

PhD in Education - Adult Education Leadership

This specialization, offered by Walden University in partnership with Indiana University School of Continuing Studies, helps you develop the knowledge and skills required to conceive, plan and deliver highly effective corporate training and development activities using the latest techniques, electronic technologies and learning strategies. Graduates occupy leadership positions in training and development among major national and international corporations and large government and non-profit organizations. They also hold high-level university teaching, professional development and continuing education positions.

PhD in Education - Community College Leadership

PhD in Education - Early Childhood Education

As the demographics of the family and workforce change, the nation is increasingly turning its attention to the critical need for early child development and education. At Walden, you will develop the expertise to lead in the development of new program practices, to apply emerging research on development in the early years and to conceptualize new paradigms for early learning. PhD in Education - Higher Education

Graduates hold leadership, administrative, teaching and research positions at colleges and universities throughout the United States providing academic and student services, professional development services and filling policy making and implementation roles.

PhD in Education - K-12 Educational Leadership

Walden's K-12 specialization provides a much-needed new model for advanced study in the field of educational leadership. A highly flexible, student-centered curriculum is designed to create local, regional, and state educational leaders who can relate to diverse, multi-cultural, K-12 and community-based school populations. Career professionals in education who work, or wish to work, in leadership and policy development at the building, district, regional or state level will find the specialization particularly suited to their needs for advanced study and certification and licensure.

Note on certification and licensure: Students undertaking the K-12 Educational leadership specialization should possess a valid administrative credential or, in appropriate cases, they may seek to use the Walden University Ph.D. degree to satisfy certification/licensure requirements in their respective states. The specialization has been designed following both National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) published standards for programs in educational leadership. Acceptance of the Walden University Ph.D. by individual states for the satisfaction of certification or licensure requirements rests with each state. Students are advised to consult directly with their state certification/licensure authority for further information. Walden University does not directly provide administrative certification or licensure in any state.

PhD in Education - Special Education

At Walden, you will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to provide leadership in the special education field and to better assist your own students in the self-actualization process. Emphasis is on services to exceptional/disabled individuals and to the related areas of special education administration including law, finance and ethics. Graduates hold leadership, administrative and teaching positions in schools and school districts and research and teaching positions at colleges and universities throughout the United States.

PhD in Education - Self-Designed

Educators who are interested in pursuing an area that is not among the specializations currently offered may develop their own specialization with the approval of the faculty chair. Current students have developed self-designed specializations in curriculum areas, such as math education, science education, art or music education, and literacy, as well as in discipline areas, such as English-language learning and urban education.

Prospective Washington state students are advised to contact the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction at 360-725-6320 or profed@ospi.wednet.edu to determine whether this education program is approved for teacher certification or endorsements in Washington state. Additionally, teachers are advised to contact their individual school district as to whether this program may qualify for salary advancement.
