The Master of Science in Higher Education degree prepares students with the practical skills, knowledge and experience to become professionals and leaders in higher education institutions, national/international associations and organizations, government agencies, and corporations. The program provides a strong foundation for career advancement, executive and senior level positions, and future doctoral studies.

Students will graduate with a primary concentration in higher education administration and organizational management and an optional secondary three-course concentration in one of the following five areas:

The instructional technology specialist position is an emerging, high-potential role in the K-12 school environment. This certification qualifies participants for state certification and provides a pathway for continued study in Drexel's Master of Science in the Science of Instruction degree program. It is available to students that currently possess a Pennsylvania Instructional I or Instructional II teaching certificate.

Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) (Online)

Trained, skilled ESL teachers are in demand across the US. Due to legislation changes, teaching English as a second language in Pennsylvania now requires the Program Specialist: ESL certificate. Similar requirements exist in other states.

The 12-credit TESL certificate program covers the theory and practice of second language education, the structure and sound of English, the design and assessment of ESL course materials, as well as broader issues in intercultural learning. It does not require that the instructor speak another language. Credits earned through this program may be applied toward the MS in the Science of Instruction.

Teaching English as a Second Language certification is an add-on certificate available to students that currently possess a Pennsylvania Instructional I or Instructional II teaching certificate. This program satisfies PA State of Education requirements for certification in Teaching English as a Second Language. Interstate agreements generally allow applicability across the U.S. However, prospective students outside of Pennsylvania are advised to check with their state authorities to determine whether this program is appropriate for their case.

Graduate Certificate - Intern Teaching (Online)

This certificate is designed exclusively for Pennsylvania residents who hold a bachelor's degree and who seek to qualify for the Pennsylvania Instructional I Certificate in order to teach at the elementary or secondary level education. Completion of one of the online core courses and the field experience (student teaching) leads to a temporary Intern Teacher Certificate issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. This feature makes the program ideal for those who would like to begin teaching in Pennsylvania in as few as 6 months while completing the remainder of the required certification courses.

Drexel University's Pennsylvania Department of Education-approved programs certify students who already hold Bachelor's degrees to be teachers in elementary education and secondary education, including biology, chemistry, physics, earth and space science, general science, environmental education and mathematics.

Students completing the program have the option to continue coursework to earn the Master of Science in the Science of Instruction degree. All graduate credits earned in this certificate program may be applied toward the master's degree.

Post-Bachelor's Certificate in Teaching (Online)

This certificate program is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor's degree and who seek to qualify for state teacher certification at the elementary or secondary level. This program is designed for career-changers as well as those who already serve as temporary, emergency or substitute teachers and wish to earn a formal teaching credential.

Drexel University's Pennsylvania Department of Education-approved programs certify students who already hold bachelor's degrees to be teachers in elementary education and secondary education, including biology, chemistry, physics, earth and space science, general science, environmental education and mathematics.

Students completing the program have the option to continue coursework to earn the Master of Science in the Science of Instruction degree. All graduate credits earned in this certificate program may be applied toward the master's degree.

Principal's Certification Program (Online)

Approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, this online program meets state educational requirements for certification as a principal. The program complies with ISLLC standards, and may be used to meet certification and professional development requirements in other states. Course work in this program may be used to meet the professional electives requirements of the MS in the Science of Instruction degree program.

This 22-credit, 10 course program is grounded in the latest research and best practices in instructional leadership. The program can be completed in 5 academic quarters (15 months). The foundations of the program include heuristic diagnostic learning as the guiding principle for curriculum development and instruction, creativity and emotional intelligence in the exercise of leadership, and effective use of technology in the classroom.
