Marylhurst University

Marylhurst University is a private institution of higher learning open to individuals of any race or religion, dedicated to making innovative education accessible to self-directed students. Undergraduate and graduate degree programs support professional development and personal enrichment goals.

Founded in 1893 by the Sisters of the Holy Names, Marylhurst was the first liberal arts college for women in the Northwest.

Today, Marylhurst is a co-educational university serving a diverse student body of all ages, faiths and backgrounds. It is recognized for its academic excellence, seminar-style classes and flexible scheduling options: courses are offered days, evenings, weekends and online.

Accreditation

Marylhurst University is accredited at the baccalaureate and master's levels by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The Master of Arts in Teaching is approved by the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC).

Master of Arts in Teaching

Marylhurst University's Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) prepares adults to make a difference in the lives of children and teens by becoming licensed teachers. A master's degree in teaching is ideal for individuals seeking a career change, recent graduates from a bachelor's program or those who work in K-12 education in a non-licensed capacity.

Marylhurst's tradition of high expectations for learning with intensive faculty support creates an environment that facilitates success for each candidate. Rigorous coursework is enhanced by supportive advising relationships that continue after graduation.

Marylhurst MAT faculty is drawn from the ranks of master practitioners, teachers and principals who are known for their classroom expertise and leadership. They bring relevance, practicality and authentic experience to coursework and classroom discussions.

There are two degrees offered within this master's program:

  • Early Childhood and Elementary Education
  • Middle and Secondary Education
