About the Master of Music in Music Education

Kent State University's Master of Music in Music Education degree assists choral, instrumental and general music teachers develop and refine their professional teaching skills. The Master of Music in Music Education degree is the professional standard required in public school teaching and is also an opportunity for music education enhancement and specialization. Music teachers gain in-depth comprehensive and practical knowledge that builds upon your current teaching experience.

Teachers who wish to complete the Master of Music in Music Education program must first meet the following Kent State University requirements for admission, evidence of graduation in good standing from an accredited Bachelor of Music degree in music education program; and a minimum music GPA of 3.0 and at least a 2.77 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for overall college coursework. In addition, the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music requires you to have current teaching licensure or teacher certification in at least one state.

Master of Music in Music Education Admission Requirements

Teachers who wish to complete the Master of Music in Music Education program must first meet the following Kent State University requirements for admission:

• Evidence of graduation in good standing from an accredited Bachelor of Music degree in music education program; and
• A minimum music GPA of 3.0 and at least a 2.77 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for overall college coursework.
