Quinnipiac University is nationally recognized as one of the
leading centers for higher learning in the Northeast and is
consistently ranked among the best master's level universities in
the north by U.S. News and World Report. All programs have
integrated computer technology into academic and campus life, and

The university offers 50 undergraduate majors and 17 graduate
programs to nearly 7,000 students on our 400-acre campus in
Hamden, Connecticut, one of the most beautiful in New England.

The Division of Education prepares teachers who can make a

As an MAT student at Quinnipiac, you benefit from a total program
that includes:
- • A nationally respected MAT degree plus certification
eligibility as a teacher in elementary education or secondary
education in the state of Connecticut.
- A five-semester, full-time program including the required
student teaching experience that develops both expertise and
self-confidence.
- Intensive internship experiences designed to provide you with
working knowledge of school protocols and actual teaching
practices. Students are quickly involved with area schools
beginning in the first semester. These internships help to defray
part of program expenses.
- A faculty that is comprised of experienced educators from all
levels of education. Faculty members-as well as field
personnel-become mentors who guide and direct each student. At
Quinnipiac, personal attention is paramount.
- An innovative integration of current pedagogical knowledge
with advanced study in your content discipline - such as English,
history or biology.
The intensive MAT curriculum consists of core certification
courses which provide eligibility for teacher certification,
advanced course work in literacy and pedagogy to satisfy master's
degree requirements and a unique internship experience which
provides pre-service teacher candidates the opportunity to learn
about schools, students and teaching.
The MAT program is offered on a full-time basis, with five
consecutive semesters beginning in the fall.
The MAT program is open to students with a bachelor's degree from
an accredited college or university. Students interested in the
secondary education program must also have a major in one of the
following fields: biology or biomedical sciences, English,
history or one of the social sciences, mathematics or Spanish.
